Easy, Nissan: Toyota tried and failed to join the Big Boys and lost with far less pretentious marketing.

Wow, that was nonsense. This coming from a guy who used to consult on advertising for feminine hygiene products.

Any failure Toyota may have had in the American truck market is because they’re too busy being synonymous with “practical, durable, Honestly, the one company that would have would up being the new king in the US was Mahindra, who would have totally taken the market by being the only company making a simple, basic, small diesel pickup in the country, which is everything fleet pickup buyers want and need that nobody offers for whatever reason.
The worst thing about the whole Mahindra debacle is they pulled their plans for pretty much no reason. Seriously, they were totally primed to own everything while paving the way for Indian cars to penetrate the American market, riding in on a reputation for rugged, unstoppable dependability, and then just were like “nope”.

I like how they show domestic trucks from the 80s and 90s as their inspiration. Also, the tone of the commercial reminds me of a poor hungry British child begging for more porridge. “Please, may we have some market share? Pretty please?” *puppy dog eyes* *coughs*
Also, missing giant window sticker:

WHY ARE YOU SELLING A JAPANESE PICKUP WITH RUSTIC AMERICAN VALUES? YOU’RE NOT MOPAR, NISSAN!

I saw this during the CFP Championship, as if it was supposed to mimic a Super Bowl ad.
And it did; it reminded me a lot of the Maserati Ghibli ad.
Only worse. Sooo much worse.
